Northridge Publishing... anyone... anyone??

Any of my scrapbooking friends had their work published in Scrapbook Trends lately?  My card that was published in the March issue was just finally returned to me last week, but that was all that was in the box?  No free magazines & no freebies as I've received in the past.  Just wondering if anyone knows if they've changed their terms?  

Anyway... I'm not going to buy that issue just to see my card in there, because really they should've sent me one... but here's the card that graced the pages of that magazine a few months ago...

 

And let's see... took 2 classes at the Y this morning (spin & Zumba), had lunch & and I'm now impatiently awaiting Bryn's arrival home tonight.  Can't wait to see her!  It's a rainy day here though, so I'm probably going to spend some time in the craft room.  In fact... here's one of the pages I finished this week while she was gone...

Mostly Simple Stories SNAP collection on here & I did a little hand-stitching by my butterfly.  I still need to get my dang sewing machine fixed.... would be nice to actually use that again!....

And the little flowers by my title letters are from the SRM Mother's Day Sticker set.  I just added a little bling to them...

Friday on the SRM Stickers blog there was a good-bye post to the current team of designers in preparation for the new team to begin. 

For my final project, using some of their NEW products, I made a matching card + "envelope" set... 

I used a Kraft Bag as my envelope... added a white Sticker Stitch, a flower sticker & closed it with a ribbon...

I used a sentiment from the set of Thank You Stickers By The Dozen + another flower sticker from that set that I placed on a Labels By The Dozen sticker...

 

It's Monday!  LOVE starting my week off with my ROCKIN' Zumba class.  So stinkin' fun!!!  Literally.... LOL

Also love that I get to teach again this Saturday after we get back from a few days at my parent's condo at the lake.  We'll spend a couple days over the 4th on their boat, which we haven't done in quite some time.  I'm REALLY looking forward to it considering my parents are every bit as crazy as my friends.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree... does it?  It's all their fault...

SRM Stickers + Bazzill Basics = FUN!

 

SRM Stickers has teamed up with Bazzill this week!  Bazzill generously sent me the adorable Lucy's Crab Shack collection.  While it's definitely a beach-themed collection, I wanted to show it's versatility and create projects that weren't beach themed.  And of course... each of my projects has more than one SRM sticker/product!

"You say it's your birthday... it's my birthday too..."

Just a quick birthday wish for my sweet friend & fellow SRM Stickers designer, Melanie, who turned 40 today.  I happen to truly think that in spite of the added wrinkles one has to keep up with & the lack of sleep that seems to be happening more frequently... life just keeps getting better & better. 

The 40's ROCK.  And so do you, Melanie.  Hope it's a happy one!  

The card is going in the mail today, a little late.  What can I say except I've been busy celebrating my birthday too.  LOL

Party time...

I love parties. 

Lots of birthdays are fast approaching, starting with Bob's on Monday.  And well... Cinco de Mayo is coming up too...  so I think a margarita glass is definitely in order (with a little added bling of course!)

The SRM Stickers I used on the card were taken from the Calendar Companion sheet.  The obvious use for the stickers is on a calendar (duh), but I thought I'd use them on a birthday card instead...

Speaking of "party time," tomorrow is Zumba and I'm pretty dang excited to be helping my totally awesome friend/mentor/supervisor teach her 75-minute class with her. 

It will be a PARTY fo sho!

Lots of fun birthdays are coming up in May.  Like mine, for instance.  Not that I'm thrilled with turning 45 next month, because frankly that number sounds OLD, but I suppose it's better than the alternative.  I'm literally in my mid life right now... and I feel like I'm still in my 20's or at least 30's!  No wonder it sometimes feels like a mid-life crisis!

Although I think my mid-life crisis pretty much involves all things Zumba... the people, the wardrobe... the crazier the better.  I'm just not ready to "grow up" yet.  So... I find myself doing things like seeing if I can still wear another earring in my ear in one of the extra holes that was pierced in high school.  And in case you were wondering... even if you don't wear an earring for like 20 years... it doesn't close up.  Who knew?

Oh... and buying pants like these for Zumba just because they're totally bad ass...

 

And speaking of bad ass... I had someone tell me I was totally bad ass after the class I taught one night.  I told Bob it was the ultimate compliment.  He just looked at me with a blank stare. 

Pretty sure he's over the whole Zumba thing. 

But back to birthdays.  I'm in need of a few cards coming up.  So... no time like the present to get started, since on most occasions I find myself making a card on the day I need one.  I used some SRM Birthday Sentiment stickers on here along with My Mind's Eye My Girl collection...

 

 

Well... it's Monday!  Time to teach my first of two Zumba classes for the day!

A little embossing...

There's many ways to use the new Glassine Bags from SRM Stickers.  Did you know you can easily emboss them for a fun new look?  Today my project is featured on the SRM Stickers blog.  I used my Cuttlebug Typeset folder to emboss my bag & add a little texture to it.  Cool right?    

I also added a SRM Birthday sentiment sticker to the bottom & tied it with The Twinery's Blossom twine and to create a unique envelope for my card...

I used the We've Got Your Stickers Plus Birdie sentiment for my card...

And one more Birthday sentiment sticker to finish it off on the inside...

Lucky to be on Team DKM...

The other day when looking for green to wear to Zumba, I found my t-shirt with our DKM 3-leaf clover logo on it (which we came up with after my sister passed away... it's the first initial to my name & my sister's names).  It inspired me to make a couple St. Patrick's Day cards for my sister & mom, which are going in the mail a little late.  Better late than never.

Just some random green from my scraps file, a heart punch, some letter stickers, and some SRM Lucky stickers, of course! 

Bryn's spending the night with her cousin at my parent's so they can take them to the St. Pat's parade tomorrow morning.  So we're starting our weekend with "date night," going out to dinner & then to see The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.  Looks hilarious.  Can't wait! 

Bob's running the 5 mile race Downtown that happens tomorrow morning before the parade & I'll be wearing my GREEN in Zumba!  Gotta love it!

Happy St. Patrick's Day weekend, everyone! 

"Make the floor shake, make the roof shake, make the wall shake, make the whole place shake..."

Things have been pretty busy around here, thus the lack of blogging.  2 weeks ago a Zumba instructor friend of mine broke her foot, so I agreed to sub her Monday night classes where she teaches at another club about 1/2 hour away, until she returns.  I'm also picking up some of her Tuesday morning classes for the next 3 weeks at least, maybe more depending on how long she's out.  Suffice it to say that Mondays are now double busy with double Zumba... my own regular class in the morning & then her class in the evening.  It's lots of FUN though!  Also... at 6am this morning I subbed a class that wasn't ordinarily Zumba, but that's what we did.  It's a good thing I LOVE IT!! 

In addition to a ton of Zumba this week plus the other work-outs like Spin & running that I love to do, new choreography for my playlists, blah, blah, blah... I also attended 2 birthday celebrations for friends (both in the same day)... and happen to have another birthday party tomorrow (a FIRST birthday). 

So... I've made a few cards lately.  In fact, you know you're a bit too busy when you make a card for someone & give it to them without actually signing it.  Although I do always love to get a laugh... so just call me the comic relief everywhere I go.  Good grief.

I promise I won't forget to sign this one though...

Just random things I found on my mess of a craft room table... like washi tape from Target + a SRM birthday sentiment sticker that blends seemlessly on top, and a paper heart doily folded in half underneath the tape.  Annnnd... another dimensional heart.  I know, big yawn, I've been doing that a lot lately...

Maybe I ought to go sign it now, just to be sure I don't forget.

Since January is a big month for birthdays, I've been busy making a few cards.

Now that I think about it, EVERY month is a big month for birthdays.

Anyway, I happened to have the Simple Stories Fabulous collection still laying on my floor, so I used one of the journaling cards as the background for this one...

In addition to my SRM sticker sentiment, I added my own grass, an extra wing & a punched butterfly to add some dimension to the card...

I went out & bought some cat stickers just for this next card.  It's a long story.  Not even sure how it began...

To add to the "cat" theme for this particular birthday party last Saturday night, I happened to find cat masks while shopping that day...

 

What can I say... it got a few laughs.

And in my world... getting a few laughs is golden.

Are ewe sure?

So I made this belated card for my friend.  Better late than never!

And when I showed it to Bryn (my biggest critic fan) she said, "Happy birthday to E we?" 

I said, "No.  That says ewe."

She said, "What's that?"

I said, "It's a female sheep.  It's a play on words."

She said, "Umm, no one knows that Mommy, except for you."

 

I hate to be right ALL the time, but I'm pretty sure she's wrong & I'm not the only one that knows that.  And anyway, it's not like I'm going to have a lot of uses for a sheep sticker so I thought it would be cute on a card...

My sewing machine seems to have something wrong with it & it's really annoying me.  I've tried rethreading it about 50 times, which by the way is making me blind, and it still won't sew.  It comes unthreaded every time.  WTH?

Determined to have some added texture on here though, I got out my needle + embroidery floss.  Usually this results in blood added to my project but I'm happy to say I managed to finish this one without poking my finger...

I added the pink bow to my sticker... just to make SURE there was no confusion as to whether it was really a ewe or not. 

Ewe know what I'm sayin'...

And welp... it's 9:00am... I've already taught the 5:30am Zumba class & I feel like half the day is over!  Better get my 2nd wind... I'm booked! 

"Turkey for me... turkey for you... let's eat the turkey in my big brown shoe..."

Two more days until Thanksgiving.  I think I managed to buy everything I need yesterday, but Lord knows I'll end up there with a store packed full of people tomorrow buying something random I forgot.  We'll see.  Crossing fingers & toes that's NOT the case. 

Here's a quick card I made that was inspired by this card I made 3 years ago... only this time I hand-cut my "feathers" from random scraps.  I cut my feather shape, folded each feather in half to give it some dimension & then snipped the edges...

Ummm... google eyes, of course... and a SRM Thanksgiving sentiment sticker...

My sister flies in tonight!  YAY!!!  Looking forward to seeing her and the rest of my family soon! 

Just a quickie...

Bob's been in Florida all weekend for the Mizzou vs. Florida football game, which sadly they lost yesterday, and Bryn and I have been hanging out together while he's been away.  It's been a busy weekend while he's been gone!  I had a party here with the girls on Friday night, got up on Saturday morning & did my friend's rockin' 75-minute Zumba class, had lunch with her & her daughter afterward, showered & changed so I could attend a Zumbathon for the American Heart Association that afternoon and then showered AGAIN & went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner.  YUMMO.  It was a long but FUN day yesterday! 

Today was spent running, practicing Zumba for my class tomorrow, applying for another design team (cross fingers!)... and Bryn had fun playing with her neighbor friend outside in the fabulous Fall weather we have right now.   LOVE it!

In the meantime... here's another Halloween card I recently made using lots of the Doodlebug Designs' Spooky Town collection + some SRM Halloween sentiment stickers and some googly eyes, of course, because I LOVE them... 

Love using pop dots to add dimension when creating a "scene" on my projects...

Our clocks have been set back today for Daylight Savings and I'm ready to teach ZUMBA tomorrow morning!

What happens in Vegas will probably end up on Facebook...

It's Monday...which means Zumba, of course!  Just finished a mad dash through the mall & now I'm ready to start packing again for Vegas... my 3rd time there this year. 

Wonder if this will finally be the time I come back home a millionaire?  Or I would at least like to have a bit of a tan anyway... LOL

Remember these free Facebook journaling cards I found awhile back? 

Well, I finally used one to make a birthday card.  Although, my original plans were to use them for a scrapbook page, so eventually I'll get around to doing that.  I also used a SRM birthday sentiment sticker on here...

 

And when I get home from Vegas, I finally get to see my sissy again, who I haven't seen since the beginning of August!  I can't wait... I can't wait!!! 

How can you not love Stevie Nicks, especially with BIG 80's hair?!  I'm just sayin...

Wedding bells are ringing...

Yep, you guessed it, I needed to make another wedding card.  For once though, it wasn't for one of the 50 weddings a year my mom attends.  Although, it has been a couple months, so I'm sure my mom will be asking me to make her a card soon.  Heehee  

This one was for a wedding that Bob & I attended Friday night for his niece.  I used some of the grey stickers from the SRM Forever set & they adhered perfectly onto my ribbon.  The round bouquet of flowers sticker on my doily is also from that sticker set...

There was one last card was posted the other day on the HIP 2B SQUARE blog that I created using their August kit.  There's so many fun little embellishments included in the kit & I was able to add a few of them to this card.... like the tiny wood veneer star, the bling, the button & the twine...

It's Monday... aka. ZUMBA day!  Had LOTS of fun teaching today, as usual!  And thank goodness for the "therapy" afterward.

Here's a couple more cards I created using the August HIP 2B SQUARE kit...

The October Afternoon paper that was included in the kit had butterflies on one side of the paper, but rather than hand-cut each butterfly individually... I made the job easier & faster by using my Martha Stewart butterfly punch, making them just a bit smaller than they were originally.

And a birthday card, which I've already given to a friend...

I just machine-stitched the lace trim that was included in the kit.  Don't have a sewing machine?  Simply adhere with staples or some glue...

Have a mentioned enough times how CUTE this kit is?!

Ready or not...

With "back-to-school" time upon us, the School is Cool collection is being highlighted on the Nikki Sivils' blog for the month of August.  I have a few projects on her blog today, two of which are these cards.

With Bryn starting middle school for the first time next week, I wanted to make a card for her first day of school to wish her good luck in 6th grade...

And speaking of school...

We tackled the school supply shopping yesterday & got everything on the list except a few pocket/prongs folders that we're totally sold out.  The first day of school outfit was purchased today.  And now we just need to go rent her clarinet for band and I think we're set.

Well... SHE is set.  Still not sure I'm ready for this new chapter in her life.   

Ready or not though... here we come!

I have awesome friends...

Bryn's spacers are in.  Round #2 of braces coming up next week.  Owie. 

I'm feeling pretty thankful today for having such good friends in my life, for weekly lunch therapy and for having fun plans coming up in the future.  I do love having plans! 

And speaking of having plans... I'm going to Vegas this weekend with my sister & my mom for a "girls weekend."  Cannot WAIT!  It will have been almost 2 months since I've last seen my sister, who now lives in Denver.  It's going to be a TOTAL blast... but how could you NOT have fun in Vegas?

Yesterday was my day over at the Nikki Sivils' blog.  If you missed it, you can check it out here.  I made a few things using Exit Here... which is one of my all time favorite Nikki Sivils' collections.  Love it!

My flag banner was just hand cut.  I used a small flower punch to add some interest.  I also added a SRM sticker sentiment right above the banner...

I made this card for Bryn & snuck it into her suitcase when she went to the lake last week...

Got a little bit carried away with the sewing machine & my line went a bit wonky.  I was going for the imperfect look though. Yeah...that's the ticket.

I ran across a post the other day on 30 ideas for using washi tape.  I have some rolls from Target, as you know.  I've used mine on a few pages so far, as seen here, here & here, but haven't made a card yet.  So I made this one last night with a strip from each roll (plus a SRM sticker sentiment)...

I love that washi tape is transparent, so it almost has a watercolor-like effect when you overlap each piece.  And since SRM stickers are also transparent, they just adhere seemlessly on top!  Perfect!

Bob was out of town for most of this week, so I had fun with friends every day.  (Probably also why I didn't do much blogging this week... whoopsie!)  Also got to see "Rock of Ages" (LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!!) and planning to go see "Magic Mike" this weekend!  Oh yeah baby...

The weather is HOT, HOT, HOT but the weekend should be a ton of fun!  Hope your weekend is a blast too!

Keep it simple, sweetie. Or not...

My projects for the month of June are up on the Nikki Sivils' blog today.  For two of my projects this month, I used the Messages collection & decided to challenge myself to use the collection for it's unintended purpose.  Sometimes when I've been working with a collection for awhile, I like to see if I can use it for a different reason just to show some versatility.  Or... perhaps I just like to make things difficult for myself & spend more time than necessary on a page?  That's how I roll sometimes.  Or... actually a lot of the time... who am I kidding? 

There's lots of red + green in the Messages collection, so I went with a Christmas page & some list-style journaling of some of the things Bryn wanted for Christmas last year...

I printed a pretend letter to Santa on some of the lined patterned paper using a typewriter font.  I also covered the orange that was on the typewriter cut-out with black marker, as the orange would've clashed with the rest of the colors on my page...

And then I made a birthday page using Messages again, as it matched well with the colors in my photos even though it's not really a birthday-ish collection.  Although it's probably more birthday than Christmas... just sayin'.

Using the Exit Here collection, I made a quick birthday card for my sweet friend & fellow Nikki Sivils' design team member, Melanie, who's also a fellow May birthday.  It was sent out a little late, but better late than never I guess!  ;-)

Off to do Spin class, then a little running & then a little birthday party planning for my soon-to-be-11-year-old.  Like... as in this weekend. 

She requested a rainbow theme for our family BBQ.

Let's see.....hmmmmm......rainbows...... ummmmmm...... welll.... OK! 

Wonder if I can work some clouds into the theme too?  Hee hee. 

Happy Birthday to you, sissy...

Yesterday was my sister's birthday.  Not only do we look alike & act alike, but our birthdays are 4 days apart.  Could be a reason we act alike...we put the BULL in Taurus.  We've always celebrated together and we'll be doing so this weekend.  Can't wait! 

Anyway... I needed to make a card for her.  And since she's a bit of a fasionista like myself... I decided to use a Basically Bare Dress Form.  The "skirt" is 2 layered cupcake liners.  I had a card published in Cards Magazine a couple years ago using the same technique.  You can see that one here... using the same kind of cupcake liners too, I might add...  

I used paper from the Nikki Sivils' Audrey collection for my card & random bling for my "belt" + "necklace." 

And celebrate in style?  We always do! 

And speaking of Basically Bare, we have a product swap coming up at the end of the month with them + Nikki Sivils.  I made something fun for that yesterday.

In other news around here...

Bryn had her art show on Tuesday, her DARE graduation ceremony last night with the entire 5th grade class and a talent show this morning where she sang "A Thousand Years" with her bestie.  My best friend in 5th grade & I used to sing ALL.THE.TIME. which drove the 2 boys we had assigned seats with in the cafeteria totally nuts.  LOL  Tomorrow I have to go back to school in the morning because she's receiving some kind of award at the all-school awards assembly and then again in the afternoon for the last day of school party.

Summer is here & I have to say, I'm not totally ready for it. 

Time to figure out how we're going to stay busy.  Pronto...     

Teacher Appreciation Week...

It's Teacher Appreciation Week & today was lunch for the staff at school.  In addition to sending a salad for their special lunch today, I also put together a gift to send for Bryn's teacher, thanks to some very inspiring ideas I saw on Facebook today from a very crafty friend.  Not only did she have this same "Keep Calm It's Almost Summer" theme that I stole from her, but she had FIVE different sets of gifts/themes for each day of this week for her daughter's teachers.  Love, love, love it! 

Also gotta love having inspiring & crafty friends! 

So... I googled "Keep Calm images." There are hundreds!  Just right clicked the one I wanted & saved it to my computer.  Then I printed the image to use for my card.  It's very simple in design, but I did add an American Crafts sticker + another cloud cut from my American Crafts paper (both from the City Park collection) to cover up the crown.  I machine stitched around the frame of the card to finish it off... 

The tote bag is filled with a few summer things + a gift card...

 

Thank you again, Dawn.  Even on her birthday today, she's still just as generous of her time & creativity as ever!  I'm just SURE her daughter's teachers are feeling pretty darn special this week... and hopefully Bryn's teacher will too!

Nikki Sivils + Glue Arts...

Glue Arts was very generous with our team in sending several different adhesives!  I made a card for "dad" using the Nikki Sivils Noah collection .  I used Glue Glider Pro under my Father Knows Best sentiment and the U Cut It 3D Adhesive Foam Blanks under my patterned paper to raise it up a bit so I could wrap my twine around my paper.  I also put a small square under my star.  Both adhesives ROCK.  Very easy to use & adhere well to paper...

(The paper used for my card was cut from the cover sheet to this collection...can't waste one bit of it!)

And since Bob's birthday is this weekend... guess who will be receiving this card?

April is already half over...

Just a quickie... as today is my day to share a few projects on the Nikki Sivils' blog.  I almost forgot it was the 15th already.  This month is certainly flying by!   

I used the new Audrey collection to create a page about the Garth Brooks show we recently attended.  The musical notes patterned paper made me think "concert page." 

My journaling was taken from my blog post about our Vegas trip.  Just copied + pasted it into Word... then printed.  Easy peasy.  I used the Maraschino twine from The Twinery to finish off my flag banner...

I also made a boy's birthday card with the Noah collection.  I added some Want 2 Scrap bling for the tires and some Shore twine from The Twinery...
