I read a post on an Instagram Reel that made me think of something I often hear from people who start a new fitness journey in effort to lose weight.
Many times, as the woman in this reel also experienced, someone will say... "I've been working out 5 days a week for the past few weeks and I haven't lost any weight yet." Or sometimes it's, "I workout all the time and I've gained weight."
The truth is... losing weight has more to do with what you're putting in your mouth, than it does with what you're doing in the gym.
And if you don't also focus on your nutrition, you'll likely not see the results you're expecting.
You have to EAT CLEAN if you want to GET LEAN.
Yes, I'm a fitness instructor and yes, I always encourage people to workout. But it isn't the absolute answer to weight loss.
Workout to get strong.
Workout for your physical, mental and emotional health.
Workout for your heart health.
Workout to build muscle and tone up.
Workout to get a natural dopamine fix.
Workout to have more energy.
Workout at a cool fitness studio where you may even find really cool friends. I actually work at a place like that if you're interested in joining us!
But if you want to reduce the fat your body is storing, you have to focus on your FOOD... good nutrition, balancing your blood sugar and eating proper portions.
Working out 5 days a week is NOT a ticket to eating whatever you want, as many tend to think after they hit the gym.
Working out 5 days a week is NOT the way to "earn" your next meal, drink, dessert, etc.
Working out 5 days a week is NOT punishment for self-sabotage over the weekend.
One of the biggest things that you can immediately change is to drink MORE WATER.
In fact... cut out everything you're drinking that isn't water... especially if you drink soda or anything sweet, because it's empty calories that do nothing to benefit you nutritionally.
Need some more incentive to drink more water?
Check out some of the many benefits below...
Want some additional ways to add more water to your diet? Try adding more greens like spinach, celery and cucumbers... they are 95% WATER!
And if you know me well, you know I eat spinach 2-3 times per day. Mostly raw, but sometimes I get out my juicer and throw it in there too! Here's a recipe involving spinach, celery and cucumbers...
