The other day I posted here about my replacement Fitbit Charge HR watch & my new TurboSTRAPP. I've worn both for my last 2 days of workouts & am pretty amazed at the difference in calorie burn even though BOTH are supposed to measure my heart rate.
If you were in my ZUMBA class last night, this was my calorie burn with my TurboSTRAPP...
And this was my calorie burn with my Fitbit. I did think I had turned it on, but noticed after the warm-up it wasn't recording my workout. So I missed a few minutes. But still there's a pretty big difference...
483 with the TurboSTRAPP vs 284 with the Fitbit (+ a few more calories for the warmup).
Both devices have my stats... weight, age, male/female (I know I also had to put my height on the TurboSTRAPP & don't think my Fitbit asked for that). So someone else doing my same class at the same intensity could have totally different numbers because of different body, age, etc... and they've shown me their own much higher calorie burn (804 calories for someone else with the same class).
I've been wearing my Fitbit since March (minus the last few weeks that it died)... and my average calorie burn with it was around 350 for my Zumba classes.
I honestly was VERY surprised by that at first because if you've been to my class you know I'm not just doing a casual stroll through the park.
And while yes, I am in good shape & my body has adapted to high cardio workouts, I still thought that couldn't be right.
I did wear both devices for my BODYPUMP class the other night too. And yep... about 100 calorie difference between the 2 devices with the TurboSTRAPP measuring higher.
I know, who cares right? I'm pretty excited about this though. I think for those who do my classes, it gives you a general idea of what your calorie burn could be even without wearing a TurboSTRAPP. 483 for me... 804 for someone else! In other words... get to class & kick it with me because we're burning quite a few calories!
I already know I take at least 10,000 steps a day... sometimes double that if I'm teaching 2 classes. So really... who cares what I'm doing for an entire day? I've worn the watch long enough to know I average about the same every day. There are other functions the watch provides in addition to your entire day's activity, like caller ID on your watch if you want it (I don't need more distractions), an alarm if you want to wake up with it (I haven't used that but have a friend that swears by it) and it measures how well you sleep (or how restless you are), and more.
Bottom line is... maybe I no longer care that my Fitbit broke & I got a free replacement. Still think they have AMAZING customer service, but I may not be as regular about wearing it as I used to be.
The Fitbit is GREAT for someone who wants the accountability of getting in more activity daily though!!
And PS... if you're burning all these calories in class every day, but have hit a plateau & you're not seeing the results of your hard work, it may be a great time to do a cleanse and change up your eating habits. The gym can only do so much!!
What a crazy difference!!!! I use the FitBit and My Fitness Pal ... and FitBit will tell me I am like 1,000 calories below goal everyday and My Fitness Pal will have me at like 300 calories under goal ... weird!!!
