Be kind... for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle...

Just a few more random pages.  I seem to be on a creative roll lately.  Probably because disappearing into my work takes my mind off other things.  I'm definitely trying to roll with it though, because most of the time the creative mojo just isn't there.   

The first page has photos from back in 2010.  I ran across them when I was going through all my old photo files on my laptop and started laughing out loud again.  This was the day I was waving good-bye to Bryn and her Bitty Twins while Bob was pulling out of the driveway.  As I was waving & he was backing up... he backed over one of the sprinkler heads & caused a huge geyser of water that was spraying into the backseat window where Bryn was sitting.  She started screaming.  I was yelling, "Bob!!!  STOP!!!"  Finally before he turned to drive down the street he realized what happened and said he couldn't hear me yelling at him because Bryn was screaming in the backseat.  I said, "That's because water was spraying in on her!!" 

The 3 of us together = one nutty combination. 

Just a random mix of products.  The car & heart are from the Nikki Sivils' Noah collection.  I put some Want 2 Scrap bling on the tires.  The lined paper is from Nikki Sivils' Summer collection.  I paper-pieced my own drops of water...

Another random mix here.  Sometimes things just need googly eyes added to finish it off.  Or maybe it was to make smile.  Either way, it worked for me...

And I finally used these professional photos + a screen shot of the website that were taken for this recording studio photo shoot with Bryn & some friends.  Another random mix (surprise, surprise) of whatever happened to be laying on the floor that matched.  Heehee.  The headphone & records were from the Nikki Sivils' Dan The Record Man collection.  More Want 2 Scrap bling on the headphones too... 

I think it's obvious I like those red Bella Blvd letter stickers.  They've only been on 3 pages in the last week. 

On Charter's home page today, one of the "hot searches" they were highlighting was "What's the best way to get rid of a migraine?"  So I clicked on it... because I have a migraine today.  And I get to teach 4 hours of Zumba tomorrow for another middle school field trip at the Y, so I'm kinda hoping I'm not teaching with a headache.  The article is A Better Route To Migraine Relief, by Dr Andrew Weil.  The last paragraph stuck with me...

"Finally, if you continue to have attacks, try to change the way you think about the headaches. Migraine is like an electrical storm in your head - violent and disruptive, but leading to a calm, clear state in the end. You may, upon reflection, discover that it is not so bad to let yourself have a headache once in a while. It is a good excuse to drop your usual routine and go inward, letting accumulated stress dissipate. As you come to accept migraines in this way and see them as serving a purpose in your life, you may not have them so frequently."

...because who knew I needed some washi tape when all I walked in for was laundry detergent & shampoo? 

Oh ok... I had chocolate on my list too.   

But have you noticed that in their office/school supply section they carry this cool tape now?  And you know that washi tape is one of the "in" things in scrapbooking, but it isn't cheap.  This 4-roll Target version for only $5.00, however, is a GREAT deal if you ask me.  Did you even ask me?  They had 4-packs of other colors too, but I went with the red set...

And voila... a taped border is a quick and easy way to add color + pattern.  The tape is a bit transparent, so you can tell I didn't get it lined up exactly straight but I'm all about imperfection here.  Only in scrapbooking though, not in trying to tame my wrinkles.  And even then I'm not doing a great job, but let's move on... 

This was another page I finished over the weekend.  Pretty basic design here, which is good when you're just trying to get pages into the books & not worry about too much detail.  The patterned paper is from my Recollections All Girl paper pad, a Nikki Sivils gingerbread house, a white SRM sticker sentiment adhered directly onto my photo, Bella Blvd letter stickers & my Martha Stewart snowflake punch with some pink Want 2 Scrap bling in the centers...

Another event documented and into the scrapbook.  I'm on a roll here...

"Old" is the new "new"...

Well... not really.  I love "new."  In fact, I just bought a lot of "new" today... like lots of fun blingy stuff for Zumba & going out on the town.  I even bought a couple birthday gifts today, too, so it wasn't all just for me... even though MOST of it was for me.  LOL  

But for the sake of this post... we'll just pretend that "old" is cool.  Because I have a TON of old product, not to mention a TON of photos that need to get into the books.  And since my goal this year is to get pages finished, whether they're "publishable" or not, I think I may be on a roll here!  Almost everything I used for these 3 pages was AT LEAST a year old, some of it a LOT older than that.  And of course... there's some SRM stickers on all pages.  LOVE those stickers...

Don't care if I can post them anywhere but here... check, check, check!

And speaking of birthday gifts.... I have a fun birthday party to attend tomorrow night.  Belly dancers will be there and I'm sure we'll all be dancing as well!  Woot woooot!  Party pics next week!

"Yeah, you keep me holding on in Red Hill Town..."

We painted the town red Saturday night.  Well... I was wearing my red pants anyway.  We started with dinner at Modesto Tapas Bar on The Hill.  Haven't been there in at least 5 years, maybe more.  Always yummy food & it's just a great restaurant.  Bob forgot he had told them we were celebrating our anniversary when he made the reservation & they brought us each a glass of champagne.  Nice!  Didn't get to meet up with my sister & her friends afterward, as our dinner finished before theirs... and quite frankly we're just getting too old to stay out all night.  So we stopped at Bailey's Chocolate Bar in Lafayette Square on the way home for dessert... some "Chocolate Inebriation."  Bailey's is one of my favorite little hip & swanky places to go after dinner.  It's always packed there, so we're obviously not the only ones who love it.  If only they were closer to home.  Or maybe that would be a bad thing... ;-)

Here's another page using more of the photo collages created with Picnik.  It's just makes it too easy to put a lot of photos onto a page.  And what can I say... I find it difficult to just use one photo to sum up an event.  Maybe that makes all my pages look the same.  I do not care.  LOL

Zumba love...

Before leaving town this week, I found some time to create with the big mess of products sitting on my craft table... and quite frankly, all over my floor.  Things tend to get scattered all over the place when I'm in create mode.  And please don't come in & try to tip-toe through the big mess.  Makes me nervous.  LOL  I am happy to say though, that I did clean & straighten up the craft room before I left.  Hate coming back home to a mess.  Yay me. 

So... this one is a mix of mostly American Crafts & some Bella Blvd.  I also added a Zumba clothing tag for another punch of color, as well as to play off the circle design in the paper.  Did I mention I buy a lot of Zumba clothes?  A girl's gotta have options... ;-)

These aren't great quality photos, but my scrapbooks are full of pages with imperfect photos.  It's the memories that matter.  And this night is a really good memory...           

Now if only I could be doing Zumba with my friends right now... all would be perfect in my world.  But... I'm hitting the treadmill instead.

TGIF...

Just a quick post today with a mix of products and some of the photos from last weekend's fun.  Once I got the design to work, I came up with the journaling pretty quickly by copying it from my blog post the other day and pasting it into a text box on Word.  You can read the journaling here if you missed it.

 

The random things on my list actually occurred during the whole weekend, even though the photos were from Friday night only.  When I use the photos from Saturday night, there may be a little repetition of things mentioned, but that's ok.  Funny things are worth repeating...    ;-)

"Now go. Stop. Drop. Pause..."

Did I ever mention that Thursday is my favorite day of the week?  It may have something to do with Zumba in the morning.  Just sayin.  And I love that some of you have started taking Zumba classes because I talk about it on here all. the. time.  You are cool girls.  ;-)   

 

Just another page today using lots of Bella Blvd.  Since this birthday party was held at the horse race track, I decided to make a horse using my Cricut and the Create A Critter cartridge.  Or... I guess I should say that Bryn made the horse for me.  And of course, I had to add some google eyes.  Love those.      

There was also a Kentucky Derby theme going on... thus the hats.  I didn't wear one, but by the end of the evening Bob did...

 

He's kinda dorky like that.  And I can say that, because I'm never dorky.  Not at all.  

And speaking of Bella Blvd... I'm going to have a boat-load of projects going up on the SRM Stickers blog on Monday for their "Paper of the Week" series that's been going on for the past 2 months.  So stay tuned for that with a chance to win some Bella Blvd goodies!

• No, I'm not selling the Missoni I scored.  Ok... well how much is it going for?   
• Yes, OF COURSE, I have an outfit planned for the reunion.  Now I just have to figure out how I'm getting home that night since all the other party people are spending the night at the hotel.  But, hey... at least I have a dress.  I have my priorities you know.
• And as for Zumba... I wish you ALL could make a road trip here to try it out.  I promise you it would be the most FUN workout you've EVER had.  It's like you're at a party in a nightclub... minus the booze & lurking men... and a LOT more sweating!      

School days...

 I spent awhile last night going through all my digital files of photos and realized I have a lot of events in the past year I haven't touched yet.  I used to consider myself a chronological scrapper.  And while I do still put everything in the scrapbooks chronologically, I'm getting worse at scrapping everything while it's still fresh in my mind.  I think it's because I'm working with product that's sent to me, so I'm always trying to find the right photos & topics to go with the right paper & products.  I decided I really need to go back to my roots & create more pages for the sake of getting them into the books, rather than to always be holding off for the right paper to match it all.  With Bryn back in school... I have more time to accomplish this goal. 

Thus, this first day of school page.  I picked up 2 sheets of Kaisercrafts' "Class of '87" collection (the year after I graduated from high school ;-) the other day at Archivers and used some of it on here.  I also added some "Midterm" from Bella Blvd, some "School is Cool" letter stickers from Nikki Sivils & even an SRM "school days" sticker sentiment.  The lined paper that I printed my jouraling on is Imaginisce's "Geek Is Chic."  The coating on the paper kinda made my journaling a bit smeary, but I did my best to not touch it when I was adhering it to my page...   

 

The school bus is another Jolee's Boutique score.  Every once in awhile, I kinda dig their stickers.  LOL  I printed a contact size print of Bryn's photo & cut it down to put her face in one of the bus windows...

 

And speaking of school... today is an early release day!  So I'm off to pick up Bryn & we're headed to the mall... her favorite thing to do.

Rock on...

I made a trip to Archivers yesterday after lunch with my date.  I don't go there very often anymore, but I went looking for some of the new Amy Tangerine collection.  Thankfully it wasn't a wasted trip.  I bought some of the paper & a package of the stitched Thickers... love those.  The last thing I need to be buying is more scrapbooking stuff, but that yellow chevron paper... had. to. have. it.      

For now, though, I have another mix of random stash.  I feel the need to use what's still laying around, because once I file it away behind cabinet doors, I tend to forget about it.  This one is a mix of mostly Cosmo Cricket, Bella Blvd & Pink Paislee.  It's not the most rock-n-rollish page, but at our age we aren't exactly diving into mosh pits anymore either...    

 

I altered the iPod cut-out a bit.  The original highlighted music category on there was "hip hop."  So I typed out "rock & roll" on Word, highlighted it with yellow like the original was, printed it & covered it.  I used some of my Glossy Accents on the "screen" to give it a little more dimension...

 

And speaking of mosh pits... I'm loving that song "My Body" by Young The Giant ever since I saw them on the MTV Video Music Awards the other night.  And I must play it really loud... 

Forty is the new thirty...

What a fun, fun weekend.  I had a BLAST with my sister & mom on Friday night at a St Louis art studio.  We had purchased some Groupons last October for a "Canvas & Cocktails" class and FINALLY set a date to use them before they expired.  All I can say is... those poor 2 people sitting at our table with us.  All we do is talk & laugh (mostly at each other) every time we get together... and trust me... this "art" we were creating gave us plenty of reason to laugh.  The theme was "Tuscan Landscape" and we had a table full of postcards & pictures we could pick from to use for inspiration for our paintings.  

I told my mom her apples she painted looked more like "road apples."  LOL  And then someone told my mom as we were leaving, that her painting was so good it should be hung in a restaurant.  We all decided that wasn't a restaurant where we'd want to eat.  LOL  Oh my gosh... I love them so much.  We really need to get together more often than we do.  

I took pictures of each of our paintings along with the postcards we chose as our inspiration... 

 

Then on Saturday night, I was out with Bob & my friends to celebrate a 40th birthday.  I made a quick card for my friend using some of my "Family Dynamix" from Bella Blvd + a couple sentiments from the SRM birthday stickers sheet...... 

 

 

 

 

Forty looks good on her.  Actually I think the forties look good on all of us.  Or maybe it's Zumba that looks good on us... since that's where I met all my fabulous friends.  Or maybe it's all the wine.  It is an antioxidant, you know... LOL   

Whatever it is... age is merely a number... not a state of mind!

"Girl can't help it... she needs more..."

I have to admit that while back-to-school time is not exactly my favorite time of the year, I've been managing to get quite a bit of work accomplished since school started last Wednesday.  My "to-do" list had been growing by the end of our summer & little by little I've been checking things off.  I'm even finding myself inspired to create just for fun... not because I have to do it.  Funny how uninterrupted time helps with that.   

While cleaning off my craft table (or actually my floor... LOL), I decided to combine some older left-over Bella Blvd lines (mainly "Socialite" & "Family Dynamix") rather than put them away... 

 

I still love using those records from the old Nikki Sivils' Dan The Record Man collection!  I may have use some more again for my U2 concert photos...

 

And speaking of Bella Blvd... I just googled & ordered some of this old, old "Midterm" word bubble patterned paper.  Mine is almost all used up & I really must have some more...   

 

...because word bubbles are the new clouds.  You know what I'm sayin'... LOL.

... or sleep with 2 eyes open, as I've been doing a lot of lately.  

Aging is fun.  LOL

Anyhoo... been creating quite a bit lately but since I have nothing I can post for awhile, I thought I'd make something for fun using a combination of left-over stash that's been laying on my craft table.

And speaking of Bella Blvd... I used some of my Family Dynamix line (the yellow patterned paper for my "bow" and the red letter stickers + a blue Baby Blooms flower on top) to make a gift I wrapped just a little more personalized.  I really love those funky letter stickers...  

 

As a matter of fact, I've created quite a few things recently with the Family Dynamix line.  What a fun, fun collection!  More on that later. 

We did end up seeing "Horrible Bosses" on Friday night.  Totally hilarious.  I laughed out loud for most of the movie.  Even when no one else was laughing.  No one else meaning... like out of all 10 of us in the movie theater.  Guess it's been out for awhile.  Go see it if you need a good laugh... assuming you're not easily offended.  LOL 

Oh and Bryn's back home as of yesterday.  Yay!

"Don't stop the party..."

I actually created something for the first time in 3 weeks.  

I mentioned that to Bryn & she stared at me and said, "I think that's a record."  I just laughed... because she's probably right.  

Between taking a quick end-of-summer family trip and hanging out with friends every single day in the last few weeks, I have accomplished nothing.  Not one darn thing.  And quite frankly, I haven't felt even remotely sad about it either.  Ok, well... maybe a minor twinge of guilt that I have some things that need to be completed by the end of the month, but not enough to make me say no to having fun.  LOL

So... since Bryn left yesterday to go to the lake with her cousin & my parents until Sunday (I got tears in my eyes after I dropped her off... 6 days is a long time.  LOL), I decided yesterday would be a good time to get back in my craft room.  So... I started with the page I was "pretending" to make when Great Day St Louis here filming me in my craft room.  Thought maybe I should finish what I started.  And I still haven't heard when that segment will air.  Not that I'm in a hurry to see it, mind you. 

It's just a mix of some Pink Paislee, some Bella Blvd & some SRM Stickers...

 

 

School starts next Wednesday.  It's not my favorite day of the year, I have to say.  Even though we can manage to get on each other's nerves sometimes, I miss Bryn when she's not here.  So, since summer is just about over & I'll only have next Monday & Tuesday with her after she returns from the lake, we went to Six Flags on Monday with our friends.  Haven't been there in at LEAST 20 years... probably more.  The weather had actually cooled off a bit & a lot of schools in the area went back that day, so the lines were tolerable & we weren't totally sweating our butts off.  It was fun! 

 

I'll attempt to spend some time creating this week so I actually have something worth posting here.  I'm not making any promises though, as I seem to be easily talked out of working these days.

4th of July weekend...

 

Our weekend so far... 

• Fun with girlfriends & our daughters (minus Sally's daughter).  We seem to have passed on our love for pyramid-building to them.  
• A short time at the pool, due to some kid puking in the pool.
• A LOT of creating in order to meet a deadline coming up.  And yes, I have a lot of work space in my craft room, but somehow I always end up with everything on the floor.
• Spin class & running.
• Some popcorn & wine. 
• A trip to watch my sister's boyfriend's band perform, with a fireworks display at the end... cancelled due to lots of RAIN tonight.  Poo...

 

... and tomorrow remains to be seen!  Hope you're enjoying your weekend, too!

Just a quick scheduled post while I'm away, tasting wine and stuff.  ;-)  A few photos from back in the fall that I had never got around to scrapping.  Still using some leftover Bella Blvd.  LOVE the Socialite line.  And speaking of Bella Blvd... just received a huge box full of the Family Dynamix line.  So look for that in the next month!  LOVE IT!

"Last Friday night... yeah we danced on table tops..."

I have another new fav song.  Yes, I know... I have many.  And the video rocks.  Who doesn't love to see the Running Man on the dance floor?  I busted into that move during the Mud Run when we got out of a mud pit & heard music blaring in the one lone spot on our course.  And the video... just a reminder of why I'm not in a big hurry for Bryn to grow up.  Not that I ever attended any parties similar to this.  Ahem.  

And Darren Criss... love him.  When he sings on Glee, I get goose bumps.  

Ok then.  Moving on. 

I used these photos for a special project I was working on for Nikki Sivils a couple months ago.  Since I won't get the original layout back, I thought I'd use them on a different page for the scrapbook.  So... when you see these same photos again for another reason, just smile & nod.  Or run away screaming from your computer.  I won't know either way...

 

 

Just a mix of mostly Bella Blvd + Bazzill Basics... and some other random things for good measure.  ;-)

Off to run.  And then if the rain ever quits... to the pool with friends.  It's not looking good though... poo. 

Happy 10th birthday to Bryn...

In my never-ending quest to fit multiple photos + journaling on a page... preferably ONE page to save room in the scrapbooks... I've come to the realization that I just don't need to recreate the wheel every single time I sit down to make something.  Keeping things simple is best with lots of photos and quite frankly even when I keep things simple, it still takes this perfectionist too long to finish a page sometimes.  In the end though, whether it's design work or just for fun, it's another completed page in the book and that really is my ultimate goal in all this. 

Using only one photo on a page just isn't my typical style, mainly because I just can't bear to leave any photos off a page when I go to document an event.  And to make things even more tricky this time... I really wanted to include the personalized menu they made for everyone at our table on the night of my birthday celebration...   

 

That's 7 photos people... + a menu + journaling.  And even with 7, I STILL had to leave some photos off the page!  LOL 

The page was made using the Socialite line from Bella Blvd.  What a fun & perfect line for party pics like these.  Love it! 

And speaking of birthdays... it's my favorite day of they year!  Happy 10th Birthday to Bryn, the love of my life!  Double digits... can't believe how fast time flies...

Have you checked out the SRM Stickers blog recently?  Today is the final day of the Bazzill Basics feature on their blog.  On Monday I posted the page I made using some of Bazzill's new patterned paper, fabric flowers & buttons.  If you missed it, you can see it here!  I thought I'd use some more of their flowers on this page too, along with some My Little Shoebox and Bella Blvd...

I also used my Glossy Accents on all 3 drink glasses to add a little dimension.  I really do love that stuff...

 

I also seem to be loving my corner rounder lately.  That tool seems to make it's way onto all of my pages lately in some way or another!

Is it just me, or is May as crazy of a month as December?

I think this very thought every year at this time.  In addition to all that we have going on around here, it's also the end of the school year... which means that I somehow get school party planning responsibilities on my shoulders as well.  I do it for Bryn, because she REALLY wants me there.  It's just that I have a lot going on right now, so laying awake at night thinking about the class party getting planned is the last thing I want on my mind.  I'd much rather just show up, watch & leave the job to someone else.  Really.  I would.   

Which brings me to a blog I enjoy reading.  I started reading  Stephanie's blog because she's a very talented scrapbooker.  But what brings me back every day is her ability to express herself through her writing.  She speaks with such honesty about being a mom & I can totally relate to much of what she says.  She has 4 very young daughters, 2 of which are twins & not even a year old yet.  In her post today she was talking about losing her patience or yelling or being sarcastic.  And how yesterday was a "scream in the pillow & want to drink a bottle of wine kind of day."  While I don't have a husband in the military who is away from home a lot, and I don't have 4 children... I can relate to having moments of temporary insanity.  I'd like to think we all can relate to that.  Whether we say it or not. 

Like yesterday for instance.  I was completely irritated to find out that I needed to get a class party organized by next Thursday, and for some strange reason had been under the assumption all year that I wasn't going to have to do that.  So as I'm sitting in the bathroom thinking about how irritated I was, Bryn barged in & yelled, "Hey Mama!"  It was a sweet, innocent thing on her part, but I yelled, "What?!" partially because of what I was thinking about just prior to that & partially because when I'm in the bathroom there's no knocking.  It's like Grand Central Station... may as well invite the neighbors in too!  Anyway, she just looked at me & said, "Are you mad?"  I said, "No.  I'm just annoyed about the class party."  She said, "Well don't be mad at me!"  I said, "I know.  I'm not mad at YOU, I just get frustrated when people just assume I can do something without asking first.  I'm sorry I yelled."  

Just one of the many, many conversations we have while I'm in the bathroom.  Although I guess someday I'll be missing that & wishing she was home to barge in on me.  LOL  Anyway, in reading Stephanie's blog I guess she makes me feel normal.  Like I'm not the only one who sometimes feels like I may lose my mind.  Or maybe I already have & I just haven't realized it yet?   

Lucky for me I have awesome friends.  And just having lunch with them & laughing my butt off makes everything ok.  Even school parties.  It will be get planned and in just a couple weeks, my 4th grader will be looking forward to her last year of elementary school in the fall.  The last year of school parties.  Definitely going to get her the American Girl doll stuff she wants for her birthday, too.  Maybe we can extend her youth & innocence just a little bit longer. ;-)      

 

More fun times ahead this weekend, which means MORE party pics with my friends!  Love them!

Well, it's Monday... and also my sister's birthday which means that the celebrating continues on!  Looking forward to dinner at my parent's house tonight to celebrate.  She'll just be driving in from a weekend in Nashville, so we're keeping things tame tonight.  Which is good considering Bryn has school tomorrow!  And speaking of school, I added up how many more days are left for Bryn this morning & came up with 14.  She's looking forward to summer.  I am too.  Hopefully she's also looking forward to spending most mornings at the Y and to "crazy" lunches sometimes afterward... because really, she'll have no choice but to enjoy it!  LOL

In addition to having lots of fun over the weekend, working out, going to church & enjoying the yucky weather... (or not)... I also needed to make a handful of birthday cards to send out this week and managed to make this page just for fun.  I wanted to save one of the many, many notes I get from Bryn... along with some ridiculous photo booth pics from our recent "girls day out."  For some reason, she loves those booths.  I'm thinking it's the dorky poses we come up with while we're in there...

 

Anyway... the page is a mix of Echo Park, Bella Blvd, a SRM Stickers 8x8 calendar page, EAD Designs stickers, some Nikki Sivils & a few other odds + ends.  That green patterned paper was the last of my Playground paper kit.  So aside from some leftover stickers & journaling spots, I have now officially used the whole thing.  Boo.
